9am - 12pm: Pattern and surface with Amanda Dobbratz: Discuss form in relation to pattern and surface. Discuss surface and pattern in relation to form. Boldy explore unexpected motifs that complement and contradict volume with Amanda Dobbratz. She will model intentional planning and give insight as to how that planning becomes embedded intuition while she considers form, function, and pattern with you. You may be familiar with the decorative techniques of mishima, sgraffito, underglaze, majolica, slips, and stains. You may not have considered the eccentric depths you can plumb with these techniques or joys of embracing the exploitation of an organic handheld line. Here is a chance to reach a little further beyond whatever decorative boundary exists for you and your students.
