Lazare Rottach received his MFA in ceramics from Kansas State University in 2006. Rottach sees the act of making as an imitation of life and a reflection of environment. The surface of Rottach’s work is activated by sgrafitto and he creates simple forms with complex mark making relating back to relief printmaking. Rottach rotates between four series of pots: Botanical, Randomness, Figurative, and Vice. All of theses series use iconography to create a conversation with the user. Currently, Lazar is working as an instructor at Normandale Community College, in Bloomington, Minnesota, and exhibiting works nationally.
