Figurative Moguya
9 am – 12 pm
Have you ever wondered about making figurative sculpture? Have your students been interested in learning how to make a larger clay object? Guillermo Guardia, also known as Moguya, is a figurative sculptor and potter, living and working out of the Schmidt Artist Lofts in St. Paul. He is a 2019 recipient of a McKnight Ceramic Artist Fellowship. Guardia’s work, influenced by his personal history growing up in Peru and his later move to the United States, is a great example of how form and surface can work together to tell an intricate and compelling story. Learn about his process of creating large figurative sculpture during this Art Educators workshop.

Nathan Bray – Color for Days!
1 – 4 pm
Are you looking to add a little color to the surface of your wares? Stuck in a rut of neutral glazes? Are you loving the possibilities of luster and surface decoration, but don’t know where to start? Bold, bright, bling! Nathan Bray is influenced by scintillating and vivid colors from many mediums: music, graphics, pop art. The surface of Bray’s pottery is an abstract painting, driven by his forms and stream of consciousness. He credits his process with the development of new ideas. Learn how to implement his stream of conscious methods to release tightly controlled forms and surface tendencies that may constrain your own practice in this hands-on decorating workshop.
