Kyla Toomey lives in Wichita, Kansas, where she teaches ceramics at Wichita State. She earned an MFA from Ohio State University, Columbus, where she also taught from 2008–2011. Toomey holds a BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, Alfred, NY. In 2007, the American Craft Council named her a Searchlight Artist. In addition to Northern Clay Center, Toomey exhibits her pottery at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia. She says: “Making pots is about production and interaction: the repetitive actions of making, the stacks that form and grow in the studio, seeing the way bowls nest within each other, chattering up the grouping, picking up one plate to reveal the one beneath, and the feeling of accomplishment that accompanies the piles.”
