Lars Voltz

Lars Voltz

Cedar Rapids, IA

Lars Voltz earned his MFA in Ceramics from Wichita State University, Kansas and his BS in Art Education from Bemidji State University, Bemidji, Minnesota.  Voltz’s work explores geology, language, and mass and volume through his wood-fired wares. Of his work, Voltz says, “I make pottery that places massive tectonics within domestic, lived space.” His work employs smooth volumes, stressed surfaces, thick slashes, jagged edges, and ripped segments to reference geologic features. In recent years, Voltz was a ceramic arts instructor at Yizhou Senior High School in Yizhou City, Hechi District, China and a resident at Studio Nong in Nanning, China. Voltz has also been an artist-in-residence at Iowa Ceramics Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Red Lodge Clay Center, Red Lodge, Montana.
