Casey Beck earned his BFA in Ceramics from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls. Beck utilizes atmospheric firing techniques to engage in a dialogue between material, form, process, and self. He thinks of the fired object as a record or memory of the narrative that the flame creates across the surface of the vessel, interacting with form and the making marks. He considers his pieces to be unfinished, with the user enlivening the piece through forming new memories with daily or special usage. Beck has received grants to pursue research in reduction cooling within both wood and soda kilns and material investigations. He has been an artist-in-residence at the Cub Creek Foundation in Appomottox, Virginia and has exhibited nationally. Beck is currently a Sales Gallery Associate and teaching artist at Northern Clay Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
