Saint Joseph, MN
Samuel Johnson received his MFA in ceramics from the University of Iowa–Iowa City in 2005, and his BFA from University of Minnesota–Morris. Between completing degrees, Johnson served a three-and-a-half year pottery apprenticeship under Richard Bresnahan. In 2000, Johnson was an invited guest to Denmark’s Design School, in Copenhagen, to study Scandinavian Ceramic Design. He has also traveled to Japan as a studio guest of Koie Ryoji. Johnson’s wood-fired forms reflect back to both of these influences. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for artaxis.org, and teaches at Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University in Minnesota.
