Ron Rael earned his Master of Architecture degree at Colubmia University in the City of New York, where he was the recipient of the William Kinne Memorial Fellowship. Rael is a professor of architecture at the University of California, Berkley, Director of the printFARM Laboratory (print Facility for Architecture, Research and Materials), holds joint appointment in the Department of Architecture, in the College of Environmental Design, and the Department of Art Practice and is both a Bakar and Hellman Fellow. His company Rael San Fratello (co-founded with architect Virginia San Fratello) was named an Emerging Voice by The Architectural League of New York. His work makes use of 3D printing techniques and incorporates his background in architecture. He and San Fratello also design and 3D print architecture, building components, and environments with their company Emerging Objects. They incorporate various materials, including cement, ceramics, sand, and more.
