Born and raised in Amarillo Texas, David Peters discovered a love for Asian art soon after he began studying ceramics. He spent a semester in China, where he studied in Jingdezhen. Peters received a BFA at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. From 2008–2009, he was the Matsutani Fellow at the Archie Bray Foundation. Peters earned an MFA at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, in June of 2013. He says, “I make work from the local clay, rocks, and woods that I have found, gathered, and processed myself. This approach to making pottery has proven to be extremely challenging and rewarding on many levels. Not only do I act as a designer, craftsman, and artist, I also engage my immediate surroundings as an explorer, geologist, miner, truck driver, lumberjack, and even dumpster diver.”
