Fall Featured Artists: Bartel, Krousey, Lang, Norman, Smith
On view October 19 – November 16
The saturated imagery of this month’s featured artists, during a typically eerie time of year, sets a consummate backdrop for late fall. Tom Bartel brings sublime creep with his sculptures that evoke both carny and carnivorous response. Matthew Krousey explores the farm and prairie with functional work decorated with barbed wire and fowl. Jamie Lang tells tales through image transfer onto adobe tile, covered in encaustic, and the result is the impression of a sharp memory shrouded by the haunting film of time and perception. Mike Norman’s figures and pots are at once evocative and curiously comfortable, and leave the audience both enamored by the sweet and captivated by the weird. To round out the offering of this month’s show is McKenzie Smith’s soda-fired work with deep, brown-orange surfaces decorated by strong, dark swaths of stain representing the lines in nature.
